This composition by Camille Saint-Saëns is simply a beautiful work.  It is humble and unassuming, yet sophisticated.  It requires a great deal of sensitivity from the performer, in addition to good flexibility and endurance in the horn’s middle and high range.  The piece is in 6/8 meter and is in ternary form.  The A sections are slow, contemplative, and lyrical while the contrasting B section has a faster tempo and is upbeat and cheerful.
